2027 APC Leaders Back Fubara: Why Wike is Losing the Battle for Rivers State

By: Abudu Olalekan

So here’s the tea: 2027’s already heating up — and Rivers State’s caught in the crossfire.

APC bigwigs just threw full support behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Like, actual backing. No fluff. Ajibola Basiru, the party’s National Secretary, said it plain: “Nobody can frustrate any APC governor.” Period.

Fubara? He jumped ship from PDP to APC back in December — 9th, to be exact. Bold move. Especially since 17 Rivers lawmakers followed him. Smart? Maybe. Messy? Definitely.

Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, APC’s National Chairman, already crowned Fubara “state leader.” But — and there’s always a but — Wike’s not having it.

Oh, Wike. The FCT Minister. Still throwing shade. Still claiming Rivers is his turf. Said Fubara’s second term? “Not guaranteed.” Called him an “opportunistic politician.” Harsh.

And get this — Wike bragged his folks still run the local governments. Ward structures? His. He lost his own polling unit to Labour Party last time — but still acts like kingmaker.

Fubara fired back — calm, but pointed — at an Arise TV event: “The only reason the dog barks is when it doesn’t understand.” Mic drop. Then added they’re “setting things right” for a smooth ride ahead.

But Wike? He doubled down. At a rally in Okrika, he called Fubara a “political mistake” — yes, those words — and vowed to correct it in 2027. Said defectors won’t get automatic tickets. Warned: “Face us on the battlefield.”

Oof.

Now, inside APC? Calm(ish). A top official — off-record — said Wike’s bluster means nothing. “President Tinubu decides. Not Wike.” And get this — Fubara’s sitting. Incumbency? Big advantage. Like, huge.

Basiru echoed that: “We support our governors. Projects? He’s building. Commissioning. We back him.” Also called out Victor Giadom for calling Fubara a “so-called governor.” Uncool. Even enemies deserve respect.

Deputy Organising Secretary Duru Eze said Tinubu’s the real boss. All new APC governors? Endorsed. Backed. Full rights.

Rivers APC’s Chibike Ikenga said only Tinubu and national leaders decide Fubara’s fate. “Wike’s not in APC. Can’t block anything.”

Elders? Even louder. Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe said Wike’s playing God. “People decide. Not him.” Chief Iko-Awaji? Said only God can stop Fubara. Called Wike’s drama a “cock-and-bull story.” Also blamed him for six months of lost governance. “We’re six months behind. Rivers won’t forget.”

So — what now?

APC says: “We’re building a one-party state here.” Like Ekiti. Consensus candidates. No drama.

But Wike? Still roaring. Still vowing war.

Bottom line? 2027’s not just about votes. It’s about legacy. Power. And who really owns Rivers.

Stay tuned. It’s gonna get messier.
