NAFDAC Shuts Down Lagos Skincare Spot Over Illegal Bleaching Products
By: Oluwaseun Lawal
So, here’s the scoop. NAFDAC just sealed a skincare facility in Agege, Lagos — Shine Shine Skincare. Why? Because they found illegal bleaching products being made there. Not just any products, but ones that are unregistered and downright dangerous.
The officials swooped in and uncovered a whole bunch of stuff being sold as “organic” and safe. But guess what? The place was far from meeting proper standards. The products were made in pretty sketchy conditions, ignoring all the rules of Good Manufacturing Practices.
Shine Shine Skincare isn’t some tiny operation either. The founder, Devine Nikiruka Adebayo, has over 100,000 followers on Instagram. But behind the glam, they were churning out unregistered items like Peeling White Scrub, Glass Scrub Wash, Antiaging Radiant Glow, and Customised Whitening Black Soap.
NAFDAC dropped a statement on their X account Sunday, warning that these products contain banned substances — corticosteroid-based bleaching agents, to be exact. These chemicals can seriously mess up your skin: thinning it, slowing healing, and making it more prone to injuries.
Bottom line? Be careful what you put on your skin. NAFDAC’s message is clear: always check before you buy. Don’t get caught up in the hype.
