This one hits hard. Ruth Otabor, the sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Phyna, has passed away after a terrible accident involving a Dangote Group truck in Auchi, Edo State. The company shared their sorrow in a statement on Sunday, August 31, 2025.
Since the accident on August 13, when Ruth was badly hurt and had to have one leg amputated, Dangote Group says they’ve been by her side—covering medical bills and supporting her family. They even made plans to fly her to India for advanced treatment, waiting only on the doctors’ okay. But despite all the efforts and Ruth’s brave fight, she couldn’t pull through.
“On behalf of the entire Dangote Group, we send our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones during this painful time,” the statement said. They also promised to do better with safety and to support those affected by such tragedies.
Ruth was fresh out of Auchi Polytechnic, full of hope and dreams, just six days before the accident. Now, her family is grieving deeply and asking for privacy to mourn their daughter, sister, and mother. Funeral plans haven’t been shared yet.
The news came through Eko Solicitors & Advocates, who represent the Otabor family. Justice Segun Ojienoh confirmed the family wanted the statement made public.
Just last week, Phyna broke down on social media, crying out for justice and calling on Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, accusing the company of trying to cover up what happened. It was a painful fight, but now the family needs space to heal.
May Ruth rest in peace.
