Wike Calls Out Obi and Amaechi: “Stop Deceiving Nigerians with One-Term Promises”

Nyesom Wike isn’t holding back. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory fired shots at former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi over his promise to serve just one term if elected president. Wike says it’s all smoke and mirrors — a promise no president can truly keep.
Speaking during his monthly media chat in Abuja on Monday, Wike backed former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai’s take: no one can realistically guarantee a single term in office. Politics changes once you’re inside the system. Plans shift. Ambitions grow.
“Even if you give him the six million votes back, those voters will still support him,” Wike said. “But what happened in 2023 won’t be the same. This social media era, which party will he run under? Labour? PDP? People deserve to know.”
He also took aim at the confusion around Obi’s political platform. “Why keep supporters guessing? Atiku says he’ll run under ADC, Amaechi says ADC, but Obi? Silence. It’s like he’s playing hide and seek.”
Wike warned that Obi’s supporters are being misled. “How can a president say, ‘I’ll only serve four years’ and expect people to believe that? Circumstances change. Some even tried for a third term before.”
His message was clear: don’t fool Nigerians with empty promises. When you get there, you’ll see if you want a second or third term. Politics isn’t that simple.
