Rising Comedy Star Gone Too Soon: Mr Sanku’s Final Journey Ends in Tragedy
By: Akinde Oluwaseun
Sometimes life just doesn’t make sense.
Raji Samad Adetola was supposed to be making people laugh today. Instead, his fans are crying. The young comedian everyone knew as Mr Sanku Comedy died Monday morning after a horrific car crash along the Oyo-Ogbomoso road.
It happened in those quiet early hours when most people are still sleeping. Sanku was traveling with a friend – just two guys probably heading somewhere ordinary, maybe cracking jokes in the car like Sanku always did.
Then everything went wrong.
Their vehicle didn’t just crash. It plunged straight into a ditch, and the impact was devastating. Social media lit up with the news faster than anyone could process it. Photos and videos started circulating, showing the wreckage that would claim two young lives.
Both men were rushed to the hospital immediately. There was hope, briefly.
Nollywood actress Funmi Awelewa even sent one of her students who lived near Bowen Hospital to check on Sanku’s condition. The student came back with encouraging news – Sanku was responding to treatment. Awelewa held onto that hope, praying against what felt inevitable.
But prayers don’t always get answered the way we want.
A few hours later, both men were pronounced dead. Just like that, a rising star in Nigerian comedy was gone.
Sanku had only started his content creation journey in 2021. Four short years to build a following, develop his unique storytelling style, and make his mark in the crowded world of skit making. He was known for bringing something different to the table – his comedy wasn’t just funny, it told stories that resonated with people.
The news spread across social platforms like wildfire. Fans who had been watching his skits just days before suddenly found themselves scrolling through tribute posts instead of new content.
Funmi Awelewa’s Instagram post captured what many were feeling. Despite her prayers, despite the initial positive reports from the hospital, death had won this round. She described sending her student to check on him, getting hopeful news, then watching it all crumble.
These are the moments that remind you how fragile everything really is.
Sanku was young, talented, and building something special. The kind of comedian who probably had big dreams about where his career could go. Netflix specials, maybe. International recognition. The usual dreams that keep content creators grinding through late nights and tight budgets.
Now his friends and family are left planning a funeral instead of celebrating his next viral video.
The Oyo-Ogbomoso road has seen its share of accidents over the years. Bad roads, speeding drivers, poor lighting – all the usual suspects that turn routine journeys into tragedies. But knowing the statistics doesn’t make individual losses any easier to bear.
Nigerian entertainment has lost another young talent, and the comedy community is mourning one of their own.
Sanku’s last posts are still up on his social media accounts. Fans are flooding the comments with tributes, sharing their favorite skits, and trying to process the sudden loss. His content will live on, but the man behind the laughter is gone.
Sometimes the only thing left to say is that life is incredibly unfair. Sanku Comedy should have had decades more to make people laugh.
Instead, we’re left with memories and the painful reminder that tomorrow isn’t guaranteed for anyone.
Rest in peace, Mr Sanku. Your comedy brought joy to many, and that legacy will outlast the tragedy that took you away.
