Indomie Recall – NAFDAC Alerts on Undeclared Allergens in Vegetable Flavour Noodles
By: Abudu Olalekan
Nigerians are on edge. The news hit like a thunderbolt: NAFDAC just issued a recall alert for Indomie Noodles, Vegetable Flavour. Why? Because it’s got milk and eggs—stuff that can send allergy sufferers to the ER.
Yeah, you heard that right. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) dropped a bombshell. Turns out, France’s food safety folks flagged it first. They said the label didn’t tell people about the milk and eggs. Oops. NAFDAC picked up the ball and told us here to watch out.
In a statement titled “Public Alert No. 041/2025,” NAFDAC said the recall covers all batches of Indomie Noodles, Vegetable Flavour, with a best-before date of February 6, 2026. If you’ve got any of these packs, toss ’em. Seriously. Don’t eat ’em.
But here’s the kicker: the government banned noodle imports years ago. So how did this get here? NAFDAC’s like, “Official risk is low, but we can’t be sure. People might buy it online or bring it back from trips abroad.” They’re telling their zonal directors to hunt it down. If they find it, they’ll seize it.
Consumers are losing it. On X (formerly Twitter), people are panicking. “My kids live on Indomie,” one user wrote. “What if they ate this?” Another said, “The ban’s supposed to stop this. Why’s it still happening?”
On Instagram, Veeyoni_Detox shared a story: “My husband stopped eating Indomie years ago. I told him the artificial flavors are bad. Now this? Scary.” Prince Alli added, “Ban Indomie or put ‘carcinogenic’ on the pack. Let people choose.”
But wait—Indomie Nigeria says it’s not their product. In a statement to Reportersroom, they’re like, “We don’t make a veggie flavour. That’s not us.” They stressed their local noodles are safe. “Our stuff’s made here, follows all the rules. No worries.”
A public health expert, Dr. Bukky Starr, weighed in: “The recalled one’s foreign. The Nigerian Indomie is onion chicken—safe. Spot the difference.”
Still, some Nigerians are skeptical. Abdulrazaq Bako on Facebook said, “Even 10% can’t be recalled. It’s supposed to pass tests before hitting shelves.”
NAFDAC’s advice? Check your packs. If it’s the veggie flavour, dump it. Report any weird sales to NAFDAC at 0800-162-3322. And if you get sick, tell them.
The panic’s real. But Indomie Nigeria’s reassuring us: their noodles are fine. The recalled one? Not theirs. So breathe easy—just stay vigilant.
