Makinde Honors Late APC Lawmaker with New Housing Estate—A Lasting Tribute

By: Oluwaseun M. Lawal
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde did something special on Thursday. He named a new housing estate after the late Prince Olaide Akinremi Jagaban, the APC lawmaker who represented Ibadan North until he passed away in July 2024. The place? The Prince Olaide Akinremi Jagaban Government Reserved Area, right along Dominion University Road in Samonda, Ibadan.
Makinde wasn’t there in person but sent his deputy, Bayo Lawal, to unveil the estate. Lawal shared a story that stuck with me: when the governor heard the news of Jagaban’s death, he said Ibadan had lost a gem. From that moment, Makinde wanted to do more than just say “rest in peace.” He wanted something lasting—something that would remind everyone of Jagaban’s impact.
And it’s not just about the name. Makinde also promised the ongoing reconstruction of the UI-Samonda Road, which links Sango and Poly Road, would be finished soon. Roads matter, right? They connect people, just like Jagaban connected his community.
The governor’s media adviser, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, put it simply: this isn’t politics. It’s respect. Akinremi’s family, represented by Abideen Akinremi, was grateful, saying they’ll never forget the support.
Local leaders like Ibadan North’s chairman, Oluseun Olufade, and High Chief Akinade Fijabi praised Makinde’s gesture and his inclusive style of governance. It’s a reminder that sometimes, honoring someone means building something real—something that lasts.
