UNICAL orders crackdown on wild graduation celebrations and cult-related activities, as the University of Calabar warns students — especially finalists — to stay away from any act that could disturb peace on campus.
The University of Calabar is not joking with this one.
The school has again warned students against wild post-exam celebrations, reckless displays, and anything that could throw the campus into chaos. Management says the ban is still in place. No noise, no dangerous convoy driving, no flying colours, and definitely no cult-style activity dressed up as celebration.
The directive was made known on Monday in Calabar through a statement signed by the Registrar, Dr Chukwuka Icha. She said the university was worried about the way some students, mostly final-year students, behave after writing their last papers. It starts like excitement, maybe harmless at first, then suddenly it turns into something else. Disorder. Risk. Trouble.
According to her, these celebrations often come with reckless driving around campus, public displays that disrupt movement, and other actions that can threaten safety. And honestly, the university seems tired of repeating itself.
Icha advised students, particularly those wrapping up their programmes, to avoid such conduct and obey school rules. She stressed that the ban on wild celebrations within the campus, around the school gates, and on all cult-related activities remains fully in force.
She also made it clear that the university would not sit back and watch. Any student, or group, caught going against the directive will face sanctions. Simple.
To make sure the order is not just another statement on paper, the Acting Chief Security Officer has been directed to enforce it strictly across the campus and surrounding areas.
The registrar then called on the entire university community to take the warning seriously and comply.
The concern isn’t coming from nowhere, by the way.
