2027: Don’t Vote Atiku, Ex-SGF Babachir Warns Nigerians

The former secretary to the government of the federation, Babachir Lawal has said that Nigerians must ensure that Atiku Abubakar does not win the presidency in 2027.
Lawal was commenting on the development around the tussle over the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship ticket in Adamawa State, which he charged Atiku with engaging in, when he spoke with reportersroom via telephone on Wednesday night.
According to Lawal, Atiku Abubakar wants to supplant the ADC gubernatorial candidate in Adamawa, Suleiman Omar with another nominee, Tukur Modibbo.
“Atiku Abubakar does not want Suleiman Omar to be the ADC gubernatorial candidate in Adamawa State. He is bent on replacing him with Alhaji. Tukur Modibbo. Atiku Abubakar has gone to great lengths to oppose Suleiman Omar’s governorship primary results in Adamawa State,” said Lawal.
Lawal explained that this is what Atiku has been doing, playing ‘ethnic politics’
“Like I said, Atiku has always played ethnicity cards to further his political ambitions, Nigerians must not fall for his antics again,” said Lawal.
On Thursday morning, Atiku Abubakar’s camp reacted strongly to Lawal’s allegations. In a statement by his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, the former vice president was accused by his aide of being involved in “unnecessary war and destruction of the ADC machinery”.
“The allegations by Babachir Lawal are false and baseless and the products of the imaginations of those who have long been engaged in generating controversies detrimental to the interest of the ADC. Atiku Abubakar has neither the interest nor the intention to destabilize the governorship primary results of the ADC in Adamawa State.
The former vice president’s media aide stated further that those Nigerians that are generating this type of fabrication are doing so because they do not want the ADC to have a unified gubernatorial candidate.
“Those opposed to the unity of the ADC are clearly disturbed by the strength of the party as reflected in the tremendous outpouring of support for Governor Lawal at the recent party governorship primary in Adamawa State. They therefore resort to this despicable act in an attempt to advance their selfish interests by generating distractions and diverting attention away from the unity and success of the ADC,” Shaibu concluded.
Lawal’s allegations against Atiku were denounced by Shaibu as a malicious propaganda against the ADC.
“The people that made these allegations against Atiku Abubakar must be dissatisfied with the consolidation and unity of the ADC. Atiku Abubakar will continue to uphold the best traditions of democracy and transparency, as he always has,” said Shaibu.
The statement asked members of the ADC, supporters and well-meaning Nigerians not to be misled by what they called ‘malicious propaganda’.
Meanwhile, the battle between two of Nigeria’s most renowned politicians shows no signs of letting up ahead of the 2027 elections.
