Family Announces Death of Veteran Actor Taiwo Hassan ‘Ogogo’

Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Taiwo Hassan, better known as Ogogo, has reportedly died after a battle with stage-four cancer.
His daughter, Kira Hassan, announced the news during an emotional Instagram Live session on Sunday.
“My daddy is dead. I can’t believe it,” she said.
Entertainment platform Emiralty Africa also shared a statement announcing the actor’s death.
“We feel sad to announce the death of star filmmaker, Alhaji Taiwo Hassan Ogogo,” the platform wrote.
The news came just hours after Kira spoke publicly about the strain her father’s illness had placed on the family. It had been a difficult period. Long days, rising emotions and, according to her, people showing up with costly offers of help.
During a TikTok Live session on Saturday, she accused some individuals of trying to profit from the family’s desperation by demanding huge sums for proposed treatments and other solutions.
“My father is a good father. Some people are even trying to make money with us in this whole situation. Fear God,” she said.
She listed some of the amounts allegedly demanded, ranging from N800,000 and N5 million to $11,000 and $18,000.
“Do you want to make us broke? We are not billionaires,” she added.
Kira explained that the family’s priority was finding proper medical care for her father, not spending money on every offer placed before them.
The pressure was getting to her too.
“I want to check my BP. I am not okay too,” she said.
Ogogo’s illness also weighed heavily on other members of the family, especially his brother, whom Kira affectionately called her “big daddy.”
She recalled seeing a troubling message in the family group chat where they regularly discussed the actor’s condition. Her uncle, frightened by what he had seen, reportedly asked: “Is Taiye going to die?”
For Kira, that question showed just how painful the situation had become for everyone.
She described the bond between her father and his brother as unusually close, saying even their children sometimes wondered whether the two men loved each other more than they loved the rest of the family.
“My big daddy loves my daddy too much,” she said.
She also expressed concern about her uncle’s emotional state.
“I am sure my big daddy is not okay. He is not fine. I don’t know,” she said.
‘I don’t know how I will see the world again’
Kira disclosed that she had stepped away from social media because seeing pictures and videos of her father during his cancer battle became too painful.
She struggled to imagine life without him.
“I don’t know how I will feel. I don’t even know how I will see the world again if anything happens to my daddy,” she said, stressing that she had not gone online to seek sympathy.
According to her, she initially joined the live session simply to clear her head. But the emotions came quickly. The bond she shared with her father made it difficult to hold back.
“I am so connected to my daddy. Nothing can be okay, ever,” she said. “He just want the best for everybody. He just want everybody to be okay.”
