FG Shuts Down Over 13Millions Social Media Accounts—Here’s Why

So, imagine waking up and finding out over 13 million social media accounts just… gone. Poof. That’s what happened recently. The government, not messing around, decided to shut down more than 13.5 million accounts and wipe out almost 59 million posts—stuff they said broke the rules. TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, X—none of them were spared.

It’s all in this 2024 report, the one Google, Microsoft, TikTok and a bunch of others handed over to the big regulators—NCC, NITDA, NBC, you know the drill. Hajiya Hadiza Umar, who speaks for NITDA, said it’s about keeping people safe online and making sure everyone follows the law. She also mentioned, kinda seriously, that the government’s not stopping here. They want to keep working with tech folks, boost digital skills, and make the internet a safer place for everyone. Sounds like a big job, right?
