“I Just Want to Stay on My Feet” — Boniface Opens Up on His Struggles and Hopes

Victor Boniface sighs before he speaks. You can tell this season hasn’t gone as planned. The 24-year-old, now wearing Werder Bremen colors after a late loan move from Bayer Leverkusen, just wants one thing — to stay fit. Simple.
“Honestly, I just want to play the whole season without injury,” he says, half-smiling, half-thinking. You can feel the weight in his words.
Things haven’t clicked yet. Not like that magical debut season at Leverkusen when he bagged 14 goals, 8 assists, and helped the club make history — unbeaten champions of Germany. That feels like ages ago. Now, it’s more about patience than fireworks.
“It’s not like I’m chasing numbers right now,” Boniface explains. “Football is funny, you know. Sometimes you’re flying, sometimes you’re just trying to find your rhythm again.”
Eight games. Two assists. No goals yet. But he doesn’t seem too bothered. At least not outwardly.
“It’s not about me scoring all the time,” he adds. “If I’m scoring and we’re losing, what’s the point? I want us to win first. When we start winning, the goals will follow.”
Boniface knows the rhythm of football — and life — can shift in seconds. One injury. One chance. One goal. That’s all it takes. For now, his goal is simple, almost humble: stay healthy, help the team, and maybe find himself again in green and white.
Werder Bremen sit eighth with 15 points after ten games. Not bad. But for Boniface, the real battle is internal — body versus spirit. And this time, he just wants his body to hold up.
