LeBron James Breaks NBA All-Time Field Goal Record
By: Akinde .S. Oluwaseun
LeBron James did it again. Thursday night. Broke another record. Most field goals in NBA history. Pretty big deal.
The Lakers though? They lost. 120-113. To the Denver Nuggets. Records don’t always mean wins.
James passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. That guy was good. Really good. But LeBron’s better. At least in this stat. 15,837 field goals. Now it’s more.
The 41-year-old’s been around. A while. 23 NBA seasons. That’s a lot. Some folks wondering if he’s done. Retiring maybe. He said in January, “I don’t know what the future holds.” Fair enough.
Thursday’s game? He scored 16 points. Not bad for an old guy. But then he got hurt. Left elbow. Fourth quarter. Shoved off court. Landed on a cameraman’s legs. Ouch.
Play stopped. They took him out. But he came back. Last two minutes. In pain though. You could tell.
The Nuggets? They won easy. Wire-to-wire. Lakers got close though. Within one point. With two minutes left. Almost. But not quite.
Nikola Jokic said, “They’re a difficult team to beat.” He had another triple-double. 28 points. 13 assists. 12 rebounds. “We scored when we needed,” he added.
This game? Could be huge for playoffs. Lakers in sixth. Last automatic spot. Just ahead of Nuggets. Two games clear of Phoenix Suns. Who lost to Chicago Bulls. 105-103.
LeBron’s got over 43,000 points now. Nearly 5,000 more than Abdul-Jabbar. Second place. Passed him in 2023.
He got to the points record faster. Because Abdul-Jabbar played before three-pointers. But this field goal record? It’s about staying power. About being really, really good. For a really, really long time.
