Morayo Afolabi-Brown Opens Up: “I Didn’t Really Know Peter Obi Before”

Sometimes, we say things without really knowing the full story. That’s exactly what Morayo Afolabi-Brown admits about her past comments on Peter Obi, the former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate.
In a candid chat with Chude Jideonwo, Morayo confessed she spoke without much knowledge of Obi’s record. “I didn’t know him well. After I made those remarks, people reached out and said, ‘Morayo, do you realize he actually served us when he was governor?’ I was like, ‘Oh, I didn’t know,’” she said.
But that’s not all she shared. Morayo also opened up about a dark time in her life — battling depression. It got so bad, she says, she even thought about ending it all. “I was depressed. It got so bad that I thought I was suicidal. I just left everything behind. I remember walking on the expressway, hoping a car would hit me. It was that bad,” she revealed.
She also talked about why she left Your View after 10 years. “I’d been thinking about moving on for a while, but I didn’t know where to go next. Then last year, I had that light bulb moment,” she explained.
Morayo didn’t shy away from the tough moments either. She recalled being sacked from TVC, and how it wasn’t until President Bola Ahmed Tinubu found out who she was that things changed. “People would ask Asiwaju, ‘Do you know whose child was sacked?’ He said, ‘I’m not aware.’ Then he was told, ‘This is Alao Aka-Bashorun’s daughter.’ That’s when he knew it was me,” she laughed.
And yes, there was that controversy — the on-air interview where she was accused of calling her husband a pedophile. The First Lady’s intervention helped her find peace and publicly apologize.
Her exit from Your View marked the end of a 12-year chapter. But Morayo’s story? Far from over.
