NANS Tells FG: Free Nnamdi Kanu Now—He’s Not Just Anybody, He’s a National Asset

Ever heard of a detainee being called a ‘national asset’? Yes, that’s the news. The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, is making a huge demand. They want Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the IPOB leader, RELEASE!!!. Immediately and without any conditions.

It’s been years since that whole Kenya ordeal, where he was picked up and brought back. Since 2021, he’s been locked up. And get this—even though courts have said he should be granted bail, it just… hasn’t happened. NANS is pointing that out, and they’re pretty frustrated about it.

In a joint statement, the NANS Prez and PRO said they get that the President believes in rule of law. But then they hit hard: “No section of the country should feel marginalised.” They straight up said Kanu is being treated like a second-class citizen. Ouch.

Calling him a “national asset” is a bold move. They’re arguing he should be out here contributing to the country, not stuck in a cell. And it’s not just them saying it. Ohanaeze Ndigbo is onboard. So are Southeast governors and federal lawmakers. That’s alot of backing.

Now they want to meet with President Tinubu. They’re asking for a sit-down to push for what they call a “political solution.” They’re really stressing the unity thing here. This isn’t just another protest; it’s a formal request from the entire national student body. Pretty big deal. The whole situation is messy, and students are saying enough is enough.
