Nasarawa’s Going Green – Big Tree Planting Push
By: Akinde Oluwasun
Okay, so Nasarawa State is doing something. A big tree planting campaign. They kicked it off Wednesday. Across all 13 local areas. The goal? Fight climate change. Sounds important, right?
Governor Abdullahi Sule said it’s about more than just trees. Greener pastures. Better living for folks. He’s all in with the Federal Government’s plans. Beautify the state. Less erosion. Healthier air. That’s the aim.
They’re also tackling waste. Lots of bins are being given out. The idea? Turn waste into something useful. For farms. For power. Makes sense, actually.
Traffic’s a problem in Karu. The governor wants funding for new roads. Maybe even a flyover. Trying to ease the congestion.
The Environment Commissioner, Margaret Elayo, is asking everyone to pitch in. Keep things clean. Avoid diseases. She says bad waste management fuels climate change. So, use the bins.
Local leaders are also speaking up. Road blockages are a huge headache. They’re asking the state government to fix it. It’s causing real problems for drivers.
Interestingly, the Federal Government is also planting billions of trees. Vice-President Shettima announced it. A big national effort. Seems like a growing focus on this stuff.
