On Her Way to Church, Then Tragedy: Driver Flees After Fatal Crash in Lagos

It was supposed to be a quiet Saturday morning. Church day. Routine.

Instead, it ended in tragedy.

A woman heading to worship at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) in Igando was killed after being struck by a Mercedes-Benz C-300 along the NYSC Bus-Stop inward Igando area of Lagos. The driver didn’t stay. He fled.

The incident was confirmed by the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, in a statement released on February 14, 2026.

According to him, the woman was walking within the designated pedestrian corridor. She was where she was supposed to be. Then, for reasons still unclear, the vehicle reportedly veered into her path. Just like that.

Emergency alerts were received. LASTMA officials along the Igando axis quickly moved in. They secured the scene. Controlled traffic. Prevented further accidents. It was orderly, but the damage had already been done.

And then the heartbreaking part.

Word of the accident reached the MFM church during service. Her husband was already there. Sitting among other worshippers. Unaware.

When he heard, he rushed out with members of the congregation to the crash site. Grief doesn’t wait. It hits immediately. Together, they conveyed her remains for the necessary rites.

The driver, however, remains at large.

A normal morning. A short walk to church. And a life gone in seconds.
