Police Shake-up: IGP Disu Redeploys Commissioners, Lagos Gets a New Boss

By: Abudu Olalekan

There’s a major shake-up happening in the Nigeria Police Force. A big one.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olutunji Disu, has just approved a whole new round of postings for Commissioners of Police across the country, and the order is “Most/Immediate.” The wireless message shot out from Force Headquarters in Abuja, telling everyone to get their records straight. Things are changing, and they’re changing now.

The new postings are a laundry list of top cops on the move. Haruna Alaba Yahaya is now heading to JGS, while Betty Enekpen Otimenyin is off to Welfare at the Force HQ in Abuja.

Here’s a quick rundown of some key states:

Lagos State: Tijani Olaiwola Fatai is the new man in charge.
FCT Command: Muhammed Sanusi Ahmed takes over the capital.
Oyo State: Olugbenga Ayodeji Abimbola is the new CP.
Delta State: Yemi John Oyeniyi has been deployed.
Ogun State: Olubode Ojajuni is heading there.
Ekiti State: Michael Adegoroye Falade is the new boss.
Katsina State: Umar Ali Fagge takes the helm.
And the list goes on, with new commissioners for Adamawa, Taraba, Zamfara, and Sokoto states also named.

Now, this move doesn’t come as a total surprise, especially the change in Lagos.

Reportersroom was on this story weeks ago. On Sunday, March 8, we exclusively reported that the then-Lagos CP, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, was about to be promoted to Assistant Inspector General (AIG). We also reported that Tijani Fatai, a Lagos-born officer, was the one being lined up to take his place.

Our sources were spot on.

“Moshood Jimoh is set to be promoted on Tuesday,” a top police source told Reportersroom back then. “Meanwhile, he is lobbying to head Zone 2 in Lagos.”

The source also told us that Fatai had powerful backing. “Mr Tijani Fatai has been penciled down for Lagos, supported by Lagos governor.”

“They will be promoted and decorated on the same day,” the source added.

And now, it’s all official. The police authorities have made it clear: these postings take immediate effect.
