Quadri Aruna WTT Defeat Streak Continues After Lebrun Loss

By: Akinde .S. Oluwaseun

It hurts to watch when heroes fall down. Quadri Aruna is a legend in Nigeria truly. But legends struggle on the court sometimes. Tuesday night in Chongqing was rough for him. Another loss landed in the book sadly. That makes eight straight WTT series defeats for the Nigerian star. He is still searching for that first win this year. It feels like forever since September 2025 last year. Back then he beat Huang Youzheng cleanly. Since then? Nothing at all. Reportersroom saw the match live. It wasn’t close really. Fans are worried now.

The venue was loud with fans screaming. Bloomage Biotech Biohyalux E·C·M Arena. China. Aruna faced Félix Lebrun there. The French kid is only 19 years old. But he has serious firepower on table. Aruna succumbed in straight sets quickly. 11–5, 11–6, 11–3. You look at those scores and wince. Especially that last set was bad. 11-3 is tough for any pro player. It shows the gap maybe. Or just a bad night entirely. Probably both things happened. The scoreline tells story. Lebrun played well.

This was their fourth meeting in history. History says Aruna can beat him sometimes. He did once before. Durban. South Africa. January 2023. It was hard-fought back then. 3–2. But that was long ago now. They met twice in 2024 recently. Goa and Chongqing. Lebrun won both matches. One was 3–0. The other 3–2. Now this happened. Another 3–0 loss. The teenager is growing up fast. Aruna is holding on tight quite.

Form is worrying for everyone watching. Everyone sees it clearly. Lebrun is hot right now. He lost just one of last five matches. That loss was to Wang Chuqin. World No. 1 player. In Singapore Smash recently. So losing to him isn’t shame really. But Aruna needs wins badly. He needs confidence back. The round of 32 exit hurts deep. It means waiting continues longer. When will the drought break finally? Nobody knows for sure.

There is more context to consider. Aruna wasn’t just playing WTT events. He represented Nigeria at ITTF Africa Cup in February. Didn’t win that trophy either. Exited in semi-finals sadly. Lost to Algeria’s Mehdi Bouloussa. So the struggle is real across tournaments now. It’s not just one bad event alone. It’s a pattern recently for him. Egypt’s Omar Assar is still there playing. He face Japan’s Yukiya Uda Wednesday. Maybe he carries the flag high.

But focus is on Quadri mainly. He is the star of show. The hope for many people. Fans love him dearly. But sport is cruel sometimes. It doesn’t care about past glory ever. You perform or you go home. Lebrun showed why he is future star. Aruna showed vulnerability clearly. Its hard to accept for fans. He give everything usually in matches. But table tennis is quick sport. Mistakes cost sets easily. Maybe age is creeping in slowly. Maybe the young guns are just too fast. The crowd went quiet when the final point landed. Silence speaks volumes in arena. People want him to win. It is tough sport.

Reportersroom thinks he will bounce back soon. He has to do it. Eight losses is a lot to take. But one win changes everything completely. Momentum is funny thing in sports. It can shift overnight suddenly. He need to find that spark again. The fans are waiting patiently. Nigeria is waiting for him. The next tournament is chance to fix. No time to dwell on Chongqing loss. The scores are final now. 11-5, 11-6, 11-3. They sting badly. But he must move forward. Training starts again soon hopefully. Hopefully the result changes next time. We believe in him still. He is a fighter. Never give up. Good luck.
