2027: APC governors deny Wike-led Rainbow Coalition alliance

APC governors have ruled out any alliance or coalition with individuals or opposition groups ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying their loyalty remains firmly with the party and its candidates.
The governors made the position known after a meeting in Abuja on Monday night. Speaking after the meeting, Imo State Governor and Chairman of the APC Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, said there was no formal agreement with any person or political group outside the APC.
The clarification comes amid the growing activities of the Rainbow Coalition, a political movement being promoted in Rivers State by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Wike, a PDP leader serving in the APC-led Federal Government, has been mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 through the coalition.
During a recent media chat, Wike alleged that Uzodimma and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq were behind some of the political challenges confronting him. He linked the situation to the expansion of his Rainbow Coalition across the country.
According to Wike, the movement is attracting politicians who may be looking for platforms to challenge APC governorship and senatorial candidates in the next election. That, he suggested, may not sit well with some governors.
But the APC governors appeared to draw a clear line. No divided loyalty. No parallel political arrangement.
Reading the communiqué after the meeting, Uzodimma said the forum would only support official APC candidates at every level.
He said, “The APC Governors Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels.
“In other words, the forum has no intention to support any candidate at any level that is not an APC candidate because our candidates who are contesting the election are being sponsored by our party.
“The governors’ campaign commitment is exclusively to all APC candidates. All levels of the party campaign architecture will align with the expectations of Mr President and the strategic objectives of the party.”
