The Visionary Initiatives for Educational Revitalization and Advancement (VIERAA) has launched its Eco-Club programme in two schools in Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area of Alimosho Local Government Area, Lagos State, marking the beginning of its planned expansion of environmental education and climate change awareness among schoolchildren.

The first launch took place at Great Mentor School between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., followed by the second at JJUPERQS Schools between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
The initiative is designed to help children understand climate change and environmental issues in simple and practical ways while encouraging them to become more conscious of their environment and their role in protecting it.

A major highlight of the launch was the unveiling of the VIERAA Eco-Club Anthem, which added a lively and memorable dimension to the programme. The children sang, danced and learned the songs within minutes, turning the anthem session into an engaging learning experience.

Through the Eco-Club, VIERAA hopes to encourage children to develop positive environmental habits and become young voices for a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment. The programme will expose members to issues including climate change, waste management, pollution and other environmental challenges affecting their communities.

Speaking on the significance of the initiative, VIERAA said the launch represents more than the establishment of school clubs.
“We want children to understand that they are not too young to care for the environment or contribute to a cleaner and healthier society. Through the Eco-Club, we want to help them learn, act and inspire others.”

The launch also reflects VIERAA’s broader focus on using education to create meaningful change among children and young people. The organisation believes that environmental awareness should begin early, giving children the knowledge and confidence to make responsible choices and influence others around them.

More schools are expected to join the initiative, with other schools already awaiting their respective Eco-Club launch dates.

VIERAA’s long-term vision is to take the Eco-Club beyond the two schools in Oke-Odo, expanding across Lagos State and eventually to other parts of Nigeria.

For VIERAA, the October 2 launch is therefore not just the opening of two school clubs, but the beginning of a wider movement to raise a generation of environmentally conscious children who can learn, act and inspire others to care for the environment.
