Peter Obi has described himself as a stronger choice for Nigeria’s presidency than President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as political attention turns to the 2027 election.
Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), made the claim at a town hall meeting in Owerri, Imo State, on Saturday, October 31. He said he had an advantage in competence, character, capacity and compassion.
He pointed to his time as governor of Anambra State, saying he managed public resources prudently and left billions of naira in the state’s coffers without borrowing. Obi also cited his performance in the 2023 presidential election, including his result in Lagos, as evidence of his ability to lead.
“I’m better than Tinubu and Atiku. I have a better track record. I managed Anambra well without borrowing. I left billions in the coffers. Nigerians know who can manage this country,” he told the gathering.
Obi also criticised Tinubu’s record, arguing that he had not delivered on his Renewed Hope agenda. He described Atiku as representing the old order.
