Police free criminal camp in Abia forest after intelligence-led operation in Umunneochi LGA

The Abia State police command on Thursday announced the destruction of a criminal camp in Abia forest following an intelligence-led operation in Umunneochi local government area.

According to the police spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police Maureen Chinaka, who spoke on behalf of the commissioner of Police Danladi Isa, the suspected hideout was located in Unuobasi forest and destroyed by police operatives acting on credible intelligence.

The spokesperson said that the violent crime response unit of the police command carried out the operation on Sunday June 28, 2026, with the back of a local security company in the area.

The police operation freed the forest from criminal activities as police operatives destroyed the suspected hideout.

The police monitoring is still in progress as the operation did disrupt criminal activities in the area.

The commissioner assured the people of Abia state that criminals would not enjoy the forest as they (police) would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that criminals are brought to book.

The police in charge of the operation also charged the inhabitants not to give any form of assistance to offenders but instead give information on suspicious activities, people, and movements to the nearest police station.
