President Bola Tinubu condoles with families of abducted children who spent 56 days in captivity
President Bola Tinubu has reacted to the abduction of pupils and teachers from Oriire community in Ogbomoso, Oyo State. The president described the rescue mission of the abducted children as a great relief to the victims’ families and the country.
In a statement on Friday, President Tinubu commended Nigeria’s security agencies for the special operation that freed the abducted pupils and teachers without any casualties.
The President said eight suspects were arrested and many others were killed during the operation.
He said although the children, their teachers, and the families of those killed in the cross-fire have been through orphans and trauma for the past 56 days, today marks a day of great relief for the people of Nigeria.
“I am specially happy that our security agencies successfully rescued the abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire, Ogbomoso, Oyo State today. This is indeed a day of great relief for the victims, especially the parents and family members of those who were abducted for the past 56 days and those who were killed in the cross-fire during the rescue operation in Ogbomoso,” said Tinubu.
The President further said that the operation by the Nigerian Air Force, Intelligence agencies, and Nigeria Police freed the children and their teachers from a terror siege and standoff that had been going on for over 50 days.
The President thanked Nigeria’s security agencies for their role in bringing the abducted pupils and teachers back to their parents’ care.
However, he noted that the abduction incidence would not be a case closed within the day.
President Tinubu further said justice shall be delivered to the victims of the abduction and those who lost their loved ones in the terror attack. He said justice will be done for the family of Mr. Oyedokun, who was also killed during the attack by the terrorists.
“In addition to restoring peace to the streets of Oriire, my government will ensure that justice is delivered to the victims of this heinous crime and the families of those who unnecessarily lost their lives in the abduction incident and the cross-fire,” he said.
The President commended the Oyo State Government for its role in facilitating and collaborating with the Federal Government during the operation.
He urged the State Government to increase security around schools to prevent such incidents from happening again.
Tinubu further asked the relevant agencies to provide medical services to the rescued pupils and teachers.
