Tinubu sacks Wale Edun, Dangiwa as ministers — cabinet reshuffle

Besides shifting roles within government, President Bola Tinubu now brings in fresh faces after saying goodbye to Wale Edun along with Ahmed Dangiwa. With these picks, momentum builds behind the Renewed Hope vision – new hands take charge where others stepped down.
A hush had settled over the city for days now. Rumors in Abuja suggested movement – quiet talk of changes waiting behind closed doors. Not big shifts, just adjustments, people said. Then Tuesday arrived. The quiet broke. Names shifted. Chairs changed hands. What everyone whispered about landed without warning.
A small shift in roles just got the green light from Tinubu, shaking up parts of the government team. Out steps Wale Edun – once handling both finance and economic coordination – with his duties now ending. Housing and urban matters no longer fall to Ahmed Dangiwa either, as he exits too. Changes like these often follow quiet calculations behind closed doors. Not much fanfare, yet it signals a pivot in how power moves through ministries.
A message reached Reportersroom through Yomi Odunuga, who speaks for the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on media matters. This note came from a memo officially marked by George Akume, holding the SGF role. The document spelled out what has now been decided.
First up comes Taiwo Oyedele, named now to lead both finance and the broader economy. Following close behind stands Dr. Muttaqha Darma, shifting into position for housing and city growth matters.
A timer ticks here as well. By Thursday, 23rd April, 2026, departing ministers must finish passing duties – either to those replacing them or to overseeing officers – as stated in the memo.
So why the change? According to Akume, it’s all about making governance run smoother and delivering more for Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Agenda. “These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.
It came up during the discussion that the President’s actions fell inside the authority granted by Sections 147 and 148 of the revised 1999 Constitution. While talking, he made clear this wasn’t beyond what the law allows. The framework for such decisions traces back directly to those specific sections. Though some might question it, the legal basis rests firmly there. Not every detail was explained, yet the reference point remains those constitutional clauses.
Out of respect for those stepping down, the SGF shared Tinubu’s thanks for their work on behalf of the country, while offering best hopes for what lies ahead. With quiet emphasis, he noted this reshaping of the cabinet isn’t rare – it fits a pattern the President plans to follow as time goes on.
