Peter Obi 2027: “I May Not Even Be Alive to Contest” — Opposition Leader Cries Out

By: Abudu Olalekan

Peter Obi just made chilling remarks.

The presidential candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) party for the 2027 polls believes he may not be alive to contest the 2027 elections as the government is frustrating all his efforts and those of other opposition politicians.

Peter Obi made the shocking claims during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo which was shared via a video on X (formerly known as Twitter) last Wednesday.

“I Might Not Be Alive Even,” Obi said when asked if there was a possibility he would not be the presidential candidate of NDC in 2027.

“You will be surprised. Not even a candidate. I might not even be alive. I’m telling you. Every single thing I do for a living this government is frustrating it., deliberately. Everything. So, there is even a possibility, if they have the opportunity I will not be alive.”

The former Anambra governor was quick to note that he was not accusing the government of anything.

“I’m not accusing. I know. I get frustrated daily. Because you do things that you think would be normal, they are not normal anymore.”

“They won’t come directly and say “Oh, we are doing this”, but you can see their hand in virtually everything,” he added.

“Targeted Attacks Against Opposition Political Leaders,” Obi termed attacks being mounted against all opposition political leaders as the government was going after everybody who was against it.

“They are attacking everybody who is in opposition personally. I am being attacked personally. Everything. Even to provide me with necessary things that I should have been entitled to, not at all.”

Obi was visibly frustrated as he continued.

“Airport Incident,” Obi recounted an incident that happened at the airport.

“I had a case recently at the airport, where people who work in the airport came and locked my car. And I said, “It’s me.” The person in charge said he does not care.

“But I said, “Look at the cars of other people.” And you could see them talking to each other, as if, “Who is this one?”

This was to suggest that the workers were treating Obi’s car differently from others as if they knew who he was.

“Subservience of the People,” according to Obi, many people had become afraid to associate with him or greet him for fear of being harassed by the government.

“And I see people I know at the airport, they will not greet me because they are fearing that if they greet me …”

Obi stopped there to let the audience guess what he was about to say.

In fact, some people had gone to the extent of asking him not to visit their events even as they were his supporters.

“And I have people send me invitations and say, “My son, my daughter is wedding, but please don’t come.”‘

People have been asked not to come to their children’s festivals by their own people because they fear what could happen if they associate with Obi.

What Does It Mean For 2027?

The issue has assumed a different dimension as Obi hinted at what it could mean for the 2027 general elections.

As the clock is ticking for Nigeria’s political transition, political parties are beginning to position themselves for the polls as the 2027 general elections draw nearer.

However, Obi’s claims could complicate things for various parties, especially the NDC, as he continues to accuse the government of targeting all opposition political leaders.

What is interesting is that Obi is not accusing but stating facts as he knows them, having been in the frontline of Nigeria’s opposition politics.

It remains to be seen if any official complaint would be made by Obi regarding the allegations.

For now, the claims have created enough of a stir as Obi’s supporters and detractors are at loggerheads, with the former questioning his statements that he would not be a candidate for the NDC in 2027.

“I Might Not Be Alive Even,” said Obi.
