BREAKING: Kidnapped Oyo Pupils and Teachers Finally Regain Freedom After Two Months

By: Abudu Olalekan

It’s been almost two months. Two long months since those bandits rolled into Oriire local government area in Oyo State and took what didn’t belong to them. Kids. Teachers. Just trying to do their jobs, trying to learn. But today, they’re back. Actually free.

Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, broke the news on X. Short post. Straight to the point. “Finally, the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been freed by their abductors,” he wrote. You could feel the weight lifting in those words.

When they finally got out a video started circulating. Reportersroom managed to get a hold of it. In it, Mrs. Alamu Folawe, principal at Community Grammar School, Ahoro-Esiele, is speaking. Voice shaking a bit, you know how it gets when you’ve been through hell. She’s thanking the President. Thanking the security men who pulled them out.

“Hello sir, our father, we’re grateful. The President sir, we’re grateful. We understand your commitment to our safety and we appreciate all you did for us. We could see in your eyes. Thank you very much. And every security operative, they tried so much. And that’s why we are still alive now. We’re very grateful,” she said.

It’s heavy stuff. Real. Not some polished press release. You hear the exhaustion, the relief, the kind of gratitude that only comes when you thought you might not make it back.

We’re still piecing together the full picture. How the release actually went down. Who was involved on the ground. Where they’re being held now for debriefing and medical checks. But for today, the main thing is they’re home. Safe.

More updates coming as we get them.
