2027: Southeast Elders Throw Weight Behind Tinubu’s Second Term Bid

NSUKKA — The hall was packed. Faces old and young. Voices echoing the same message — “Tinubu again, 2027.”

On Wednesday, the South-East Elders Alliance for Tinubu 2027, Enugu North Senatorial District chapter, openly declared their loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Why? Because, according to them, the South-East has never had it this good.

They point to appointments. Big ones. Sons and daughters of the region now sitting in juicy offices — from Vice-Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff, to Frank Mba as Deputy Inspector General of Police, to Prof. Melvin D. Ayogu on the CBN board. Even the first Igbo Imam of the Central Mosque, Abuja, Prof. Iliyasu Usman, is from Nsukka.

The group’s message wasn’t just praise. They asked Tinubu to make history — push for a constitutional amendment to create new states. They also pleaded for relief from biting economic hardship, a more stable naira, lower fuel prices, and food that doesn’t cost a fortune.

Security was another hot topic. They want a “Digital Response Arm” — a tech-driven unit in the Nigerian security system — to tackle insecurity. “Nigeria has digital geniuses everywhere,” they said. “Let’s put them to work.”

In their words, Enugu North has never enjoyed this much federal presence. “Mr. President, we thank you,” the communique read. And then came the call — “Let’s give him a second term. Let him finish the southern mandate. That way, the fights over 2027 candidates might just cool down.”

Blessings, prayers, politics — all rolled into one Wednesday in Nsukka.
