LAUTECH Student Loans: University Confirms Over N1.4bn NELFUND Cash Already Paid Out in 2025

Look, there was a bit of noise online making it sound like NELFUND was dragging its feet with LAUTECH students. The university just came out swinging – nicely, but firmly – to shut that down.
According to the Registrar, Mrs Olayinka Balogun, more than ₦1.4 billion has already landed in students’ accounts this year alone. Full stop. No delay, no wahala.
Nearly 19,000 students applied. Over 15,000 of those applications have been verified by LAUTECH themselves – proper verification, nothing shady. Right now, 5,237 students have been fully approved and are just waiting for the money to hit (some have already received theirs, others are in the final pipeline).
What happened was simple: during the pre-convocation press briefing, the school gave an update about the ongoing 2025/2026 batch. Some blogs took that update, twisted it, and ran headlines suggesting NELFUND was sitting on the money. LAUTECH said nah, that’s not what we meant at all.
In their words (I’m paraphrasing a little because the official statement was super corporate):
“We’ve got a fantastic relationship with NELFUND – smooth, productive, and we’re genuinely grateful. That N1.4 billion plus that has gone out this year? It’s changed lives. We never said or implied there was any reluctance on their side. Anybody who heard that heard wrong.”
They went on to say they’re proud of the partnership, super confident in the scheme, and they’ll keep working hand-in-hand so no student drops out because of money.
Honestly? Good to see a university stand up quickly and clear the air instead of letting rumours fester. A lot of students were panicking for nothing.
So yeah – if you’re a LAUTECH student still waiting on your NELFUND loan, breathe. It’s coming. The money is moving. And the school just publicly put their arm around NELFUND and said “we good”. That counts for something.
